According to a survey conducted by KPMGLLP, executives in the semiconductor industry forecast a modest increase in sales next year, which is lower than the historical average. In this survey, 99% of executives expect sales growth in the next fiscal year, and about half (52%) of executives estimate growth rates to be higher than 10%.
Compared with the previous year, such growth rate forecasts seem to be relatively mild. According to KPMGLLP, 60% of respondents last year thought the growth rate would be higher than 10%. KPMG found that only 57% of respondents expect capital expenditures to increase next year, much lower than the 72% increase in 2006.
Executives interviewed by KPMG pointed out that China, the United States and Europe will be the fastest growing three regions. In the next three years, the application market for consumer products, mobile phones and computing will be very important.
Gary Matuszak, head of KPMG's global information, communications and entertainment (ICE) business, said in a statement: "The current focus is on maintaining growth paths, which indicates that companies will continue to spend and integration may occur in the industry. But spending will slow down."
KPMG's global survey was conducted in collaboration with the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) and interviewed 94 corporate executives from 100 top global semiconductor companies.
