The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) plans to test a blockchain technology to verify certificates of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA).
According to Americanshipper.com, Vincent Annunziato, head of CBP’s business transformation and innovation department, said that the agency is conducting “field testing†on the blockchain platform to verify that the origin of imported products is The place they put forward at the 2018 Atlanta CBP Trade Symposium.
He said that the new system will be launched in September and will help CBP verify imported product information and check how foreign suppliers treat US importers. The system can also be used to authenticate trademarks and check the physical attributes of goods. Annuziato said:

Anunziatto said that the blockchain system can be used in mobile applications, which will replace paper-based manual procedures to verify such information, thus simplifying the agency's work.
He also introduced the latest work of the bureau and the Commercial Customs OperaTIons Advisory Committee (COAC). According to previous reports from CoinDesk, in November last year, COAC established a special team to advise the Minister of Finance and the Department of Homeland Security on the business operations of the agency. Allegedly, the agency focuses on emerging technologies, especially blockchain.
This week, Annuziato confirmed that the committee is developing a proof-of-concept blockchain platform that verifies intellectual property by confirming the relationship between licensees and licensors. CPB hopes that this technology will eventually eliminate paper processes, manuals and databases.
