LED illuminates World Heritage: the effect of introducing LEDs into Ci Zun

The Ci Zun Yuan is located near the entrance of the Jingangfeng Temple, which is famous for its masters of Hongfa, in Koyasan, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. As part of the “Kii Mountain Spiritual Land and Visiting Road”, it is included in the World Heritage List. At the end of 2010, the Ci Zun Hospital had undergone a radical change. The lanterns and outdoor lighting in the worship hall were all replaced by LEDs. The temple with a long history is paired with the LEDs with the latest technology, which makes people feel uncoordinated at one time. Why is the effect of using LEDs? The reporter found the answer by interviewing relevant people.

Visit the entrance of the church and use lanterns to illuminate the visitors.

There are 320 turns of lanterns using LEDs as light sources. There are 48 outdoor illuminators. According to Ci Zunyuan, the installation project began on November 24, 2010, and ended on November 30 after one week, and was completed by December 2010. From December 31, 2010 to New Year's Day in 2011, LED lighting ushered in the first time guests who prayed for the new year.

The reporter of Nikkei Electronics used the background and effect of the LED and the painstaking effort of the installation. He interviewed the abbot of the Ci Zunyuan, Anqing Qingbang, 3FORCE and star construction workers responsible for the installation project, and Philips Electronics Japan, which provides LEDs. the company.

The power consumption is only a fraction of the original, but the brightness is doubled

Lanterns are used to illuminate the hall. Of the 320 lanterns, about 300 miles were hung in the worship hall, and the whole room was illuminated. According to Ci Zunyuan, lanterns used to use incandescent bulbs as a light source. The power consumption of each lantern is about 10 to 20W. After changing to LED, the power consumption of each lantern was reduced to 2.5W. The brightness has increased to 2 times.

According to the introduction, the increase in brightness in the hall has brought many benefits. For example, the portraits of Buddhism on the wall are more clearly seen and praised by the old believers who have been visiting the shrine. In order to make the valuable Buddhist portraits clearer, it is necessary to prepare additional spotlights. However, if the spotlight is used continuously, the infrared rays will degrade the Buddhist image, so it cannot be irradiated for a long time.
