Fujitsu Semiconductor Introduces an Interface Bridge Chip Supporting 10 Different Interfaces

21ic News Fujitsu Semiconductor (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. today announced the new interface bridge chip "MB86E631", which integrates a dual-core ARM® CortexTM-A9 processor with many different interfaces. New product samples will be available from late December 2012.

The MB86E631 includes 10 different interfaces including USB, SATA, PCI Express, Ethernet MAC and TS. Therefore, this new product is a performance and powerful large-scale integrated circuit (LSI), which is very suitable for the control of the transcoder chip, but also for those products that need to control many interfaces.

The rapid adoption of smartphones and tablets has led to the advent of various Wi-Fi TV reception products that can watch TV on mobile devices. These TV receivers are equipped with transcoder chips for video format and resolution conversion, as well as Wi-Fi modules and other technologies. The challenge is how to choose the most suitable CPU to control these different technologies. The functions of the multi-format decoder applied to the video recording device and the communication processing chip of the network product are too powerful; however, the performance of the low-cost control chip, such as the single chip microcomputer, is not sufficient.

At the same time, customers who produce video recording devices, TVs with recording capabilities, and other products say they need a control chip that supports multiple interfaces to allow their products to be interconnected with many products.

The interface bridge chip "MB86E631" developed by Fujitsu Semiconductor is a chip that satisfies the aforementioned requirements in terms of performance and function.

The CPU core of the MB86E631 is a dual-core ARM® CortexTM-A9 processor (operating at approximately 500MHz). The chip has a total of 10 different interfaces including USB2.0/3.0, SATA, PCI Express, Ethernet MAC and TS interfaces. All are integrated. The chip is not only well suited for use in Wi-Fi TV reception applications with transcoders, but also as a master controller for controlling multiple TV tuners and other applications that need to control multiple interfaces. In addition, the new chip will open up a whole new market beyond existing video broadcast and recording devices, those that require higher performance and those that support multiple interfaces.

In the future, Fujitsu Semiconductor will continue to introduce new technologies and products - especially in the field of video processing chips, and will also provide related solutions for various product applications.

product description

1. Contains 10 different interfaces

With USB 2.0/3.0, SATA, PCI Express, Ethernet MAC, TS, UART and I2C and DDR3, four-way serial flash controller memory interface, this new family of products can be used in many applications, including as a transcoder chip. The control chip can also be used as a master chip in a multi-channel recorder that needs to control multiple interfaces.

2. Dual-core ARM® CortexTM-A9 processor

The new family uses an optimized CPU core to control each of its embedded interfaces.

3. Support development of Wi-Fi TV tuner solution

The reference design board provided by Fujitsu Semiconductor is based on the MB86E631 and Fujitsu's transcoder chip. In addition, the reference design board that supports the Linux platform and is compatible with DLNA will also be introduced as a solution for customers to develop wifi TV reception products.
