Moxa Dual-band Redundant Wireless Communication Creates Uninterrupted Wind Power System

project description

Wind power has been thriving in China and is an important part of the national economy. However, wind farms are usually located in extremely harsh field environments, for example, the sea temperature may even be lower than -10°C. Because the interior of the wind column is wired, the top turbine is connected to the network, and then all the wind columns in the wind farm are connected to the remote control center. However, this solution is not feasible for offshore wind farms. Therefore, Chinese system integrators have begun to switch to wireless solutions to ensure that their wind turbines can operate stably in harsh field environments.

The system requires reliable products to avoid frequent maintenance and maintenance caused by bad weather conditions and human interference. The solution must be integrated with the existing system, including sensors, controllers, and a stable transmission medium of the network, to ensure the reliability of the wireless connection.
Moxa solution

Power is generated by the wind turbine at the top of each wind column. It is connected to a variety of sensors, including ultrasonic wind speed transmitters and hub controllers. It is mainly used to collect wind speed, wind direction, shaft speed and other important reference data. The wind park control system uses this type of information to properly adjust the direction of the wind turbine to produce maximum power generation. Therefore, the various sensors and controllers at the top of each air column must be connected to the wind farm control center through the existing backbone Ethernet. However, in some wind farms, because the existing network environment cannot be used, creating a wired network would mean a high cost. Therefore, the end customer adopts the Moxa wireless solution and uses AWK-5222 to reduce the cost of the entire network connection. Dual RF capabilities also ensure network redundancy.

Because the height of each air column exceeds 100 meters, the cost of connecting wind turbines, sensors, and controllers at the top of the air column to the backbone network is very high, and it is also subject to human accidental damage. Therefore, wireless communication is the safest solution. Install one AWK-5222 at the top and bottom of each air column, so that all kinds of data—wind direction, power generation, wind turbine damage—can be collected wirelessly and then passed through the existing backbone network. Send to the remote control center.

Why Moxa
Moxa wireless solutions are suitable for hard-to-wire locations. In addition, Moxa can help expand the existing network to establish wireless communication and reduce the cost of wiring and maintenance. Wireless Redundancy integrates with existing backbone networks to ensure real-time data transfer from wind turbines to redundant wireless communications at remote control centers. Ensure uninterrupted communication of data in extreme environments
