This is a precise current monitoring circuit designed to operate from a positive high common-mode DC voltage of up to +500 V, with an error margin of less than 0.2%. The load current flows through an external shunt resistor, which should be selected so that the voltage across it is approximately 500 mV at maximum load current. When paired with an external PNP transistor, the AD8212 can accurately amplify small differential input voltages while handling a common-mode voltage greater than 500 V. The ADuM5402 four-channel isolator provides galvanic isolation, protecting downstream circuits from potentially damaging high-voltage conditions. In addition to isolating the output data, this digital isolator supplies +3.3 V isolated power to the circuit. The AD7171 delivers accurate measurement results via a simple two-wire SPI-compatible serial interface. This combination offers a cost-effective, low-power solution for measuring high-voltage rail currents, with minimal components required. It’s ideal for applications where precision, reliability, and efficiency are essential.
