Recently, Sharp Corporation announced that it will launch two major categories of white LED products for lighting, one of which is LED LCD TV backlights.
At present, the market for LED new applications such as LED lamps for replacing incandescent lamps, notebook computers (PCs), and backlights used in LCD TVs is rapidly expanding. Among them, as the liquid crystal panel backlight source changes from CCFL to LED, the output of LED backlight is rapidly expanding, and the price is rapidly decreasing. This has made it possible for LED manufacturers who have worked in the LED backlight market in the past to be threatened. The emerging LED manufacturers also include South Korea's Samsung Group and South Korea's LG Group, which are rapidly expanding the production scale of LCD LED backlights.
The two major categories of LEDs listed on the Sharp are a total of nine products, one of which is the same as the high-power LED used in the company's "LEDAQUOS" LCD TV. When it is used for lighting purposes, a plurality of LED chips are mounted on the bottom plate, and a sealing material mixed with a phosphor and a transparent sealing material are double-sealed thereon, thereby improving light extraction efficiency.
According to industry analysts, if Sharp can expand its production and reduce costs in the future, it will likely become a new threat to well-known LED manufacturers alongside South Korea's Samsung Group and LG Group.
