A few days ago, Veeco Instruments, a maker of organic metal chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) equipment, announced that it will establish the Taiwan Technology Center (TTC) at the Hsinchu Science Park in Taiwan, and will hold an opening ceremony on August 31.
Veeco said that thanks to the huge market demand of LED industry and the upsurge of investment from LED upstream players, the company has provided more real-time support for service and product development in order to get closer to Taiwan's LED upstream Epistar industry, following the mainland in May of this year. After the establishment of the "Shanghai Training Center" (CTC), the "Taiwan Technology Center" was established again in Hsinchu, Taiwan. In addition, the company plans to establish a research, development, display and process support center in Seoul, South Korea in early 2012.
The establishment of "Taiwan Technology Center" will help customers to quickly introduce the high-efficiency and low-cost LED mass production stage, and instantly obtain Veeco's latest system and technical support, as well as faster response time. Its main functions include: showing the process to customers; arranging a Rapid Start Program to transfer and authenticate customers' LED formulations; allowing customers to evaluate system upgrades early; supporting joint technology development programs;
Veeco currently has two divisions, including the LED and Solar Process Equipment Division, which provides metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) for LED and CPV solar cells and MBE products. Veeco launched the K465i MOCVD machine in 2010 and received high recognition from the industry. In 2011, MaxBright, the latest generation TurboDisc MaxBright GaN MOCVD machine, was released. Its production efficiency is up to five times that of K465i. The industry has the highest productivity and the MOCVD machine with the lowest cost of ownership.
Currently, Veeco's customers in the LED field include: Epistar, Genesis Photonics, Tekcore, Arima, LG Innotek, Seoul Optoelectronics, Samsung LED, Philips Lumileds, OSRAM, Sanan, Elec-Tech, Sharp, Toshiba and others.
