Ali's fourth-quarter revenue of 34.5 billion Alibaba Cloud revenue surged 126%

Alibaba Group recently released its fourth-quarter 2015 financial results, which showed strong growth in both revenue and profit, significantly exceeding Wall Street expectations. The company's performance highlights the resilience and potential of China’s consumer economy and technology-driven industries. In the last quarter, Alibaba’s ecosystem continued to expand, with its retail platforms contributing 11.36% of the total retail sales of consumer goods in China. Tmall, one of Alibaba’s key platforms, achieved a record-breaking increase in transaction volume. Alibaba’s revenue for the quarter reached 34.543 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year growth of 32%. Adjusted net profit was 19.11 billion yuan, up 27% compared to the same period last year. The number of active users on Alibaba’s retail platforms reached 407 million, with a seasonal increase of 21 million. Mobile monthly active users hit 393 million, showing a net gain of 47 million during the quarter. Mobile transactions accounted for 68% of the total retail platform transactions, which reached 964 billion yuan. Tmall also experienced a significant surge, with a net increase of 126 billion yuan in transaction volume. This quarter marked a milestone for Alibaba, as it surpassed 400 million active users. The company is focusing on strategic priorities such as globalization, rural development, cloud computing, and strengthening its presence in first-tier cities. Alibaba’s O2O platform, “Yiyan,” reported transaction volumes of 15.8 billion yuan in the fourth quarter, quickly gaining market share. Meanwhile, Rural Taobao has expanded to over 3 million households, benefiting 12 million people and fostering new rural industries and consumption patterns. In addition, Tmall welcomed more than 200 global brand flagship stores during this period, demonstrating the platform’s growing international appeal. Despite a global economic slowdown, Alibaba’s financial performance reflects the strong domestic demand and technological innovation driving China’s economy. Alibaba Cloud, a key part of the company’s growth strategy, saw a year-on-year revenue increase of 126%, reaching 819 million yuan. The cloud division continues to expand its domestic and international reach, offering advanced products and cutting-edge technologies. Alibaba Cloud also broke a world record in October 2015 by sorting 100TB of data in just 377 seconds, surpassing previous records set by Microsoft and Yahoo. Furthermore, Alibaba launched “Number Plus,” the world’s first comprehensive big data platform, providing access to 20 models and tools built over a decade. This platform covers front-end, middle-end, and back-end operations, marking a major step forward in data analytics. Analysts believe that the cloud computing market is becoming increasingly consolidated, with a small group of top providers dominating the industry. According to IDC, six or fewer companies are expected to control approximately 80% of the global public cloud market, including Amazon, Alibaba Cloud, Microsoft, Google, Salesforce, and IBM. Overall, Alibaba’s impressive financial performance underscores its leadership in e-commerce, cloud computing, and big data, positioning it as a key player in the evolving digital economy.
