AMD tablet processor power sprint 2W following

As the center of gravity of the strategy shifts, mobile areas such as the tablet and embedded will become the top priority for AMD in the future. Here, power consumption is much more important than performance.

On the roadmap, AMD has listed two generations of ultra-low power APUs for the next two years, of which the first generation "Hondo" integrates one to two ultra-low voltage Lynx processor cores and DX11 GPU graphics cores. The manufacturing process is still TSMC 40nm, thermal design power 4.5W. It will come with Windows 8 tablet later this year.

Next year's "Temash" will use the so-called "Jaguar" processor core, which has a higher IPC and better power control. It is believed to be an improved version of the Bobcats and the manufacturing process has also been upgraded to 28nm. At the same time, this will also be AMD's first-generation SoC system-on-chip processor that integrates the FCH chipset.

AMD did not disclose the power consumption of Temash APU, but in another slide, AMD stated that its ultra-low-power products will move toward the goal of less than 2W power consumption. Hopefully this is talking about Temash, which is very likely from the perspective of technological progress.
