Eskimo's new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar has not yet shipped, but if you want to try this new feature first and then decide whether to spend tens of thousands to buy this notebook is not without a solution.
Recently, developers Andreas Verhoeven and Robbert Klarenbeek co-produced a Touch Bar Demo application that provides a new way to use the Touch Bar on older Macs. After running the application, you can press the Fn key to activate the Touch Bar, and you can choose to have it displayed on the home screen or on a connected iPad.
This application is actually only showing the features supported by Apple that have been added to the system. Therefore, the Touch Bar can still be dynamically adjusted based on the applications or content you have open, just like the new MacBook Pro. Of course, suppose you use an application that supports this feature.
It is worth noting that this application supports all Mac models running the latest version of macOS. In addition to the MacBook series, iMac and Mac Pro are equally applicable. Just make sure the operating system is up-to-date and then go to the Touch Bar Demo's GitHub page to download.
However, if you want to use the iPad as a Touch Bar, you have to install the application on iOS, which is more complicated than the operation on the Mac. First, you must install Xcode first, then download the Touch Bar Xcode project file from the GitHub page, and then use Xcode to sideload the application. Although the entire process is not particularly complicated, if you haven't had access to Xcode before, it may still take a while.
