According to tech media TechCrunch, Intel's next-generation Alloy head is already under development, called Alloy 2.

Alloy 2 will have a Realsense 400 camera and will be upgraded to the Kaby Lake processor. Most interestingly, Alloy 2 will abandon the Atom processor and use Intel's newly acquired Movidius vision processing unit.

Although the original generation prototype is also tracked from the inside out, the accuracy of the DS4 RealSense camera it uses still needs to be improved. The good news is that the next-generation Alloy 2 depth camera will be three times the resolution of the previous generation, providing more accurate tracking.

By next year, we will see hardware experience from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Intel has long said that consumer hardware products are not their real strengths, it is more focused on demonstrating the underlying technology.

Therefore, Alloy 2 will eventually be a reference design, complemented by Intel and Microsoft and other partners. Intel is not planning to enter the consumer hardware business for the time being, but CEO Brian Krzanich hopes that his head will help these Intel technologies be embedded in the genes of the next generation of VR devices.

Krzanich said: "Our goal is to complete a generation of Alloy by the middle of next year and open source to it. Everyone can stand on its shoulders and develop, some like the previous Microsoft PC business."
