Jingdong teamed up with Baijia Enterprise to build a large-screen smart alliance to make TV "...

In recent years, the concept of a smart home has moved from science fiction to reality. With the help of smart TVs, users can now control their entire home environment with simple voice commands, watch their favorite shows, and even shop while they’re entertained—all through the big screen. This vision is becoming a tangible reality thanks to the recent establishment of the JD Smart Screen Industry Alliance. On November 22nd, under the guidance of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce, JD.com joined forces with leading companies such as Konka, LeTV, Hisense, Samsung, Sharp, Xiaomi, Tencent Video, and others, including standards associations, content providers, and OTT manufacturers. Together, these industry leaders formed a large-screen smart industry alliance aimed at transforming the smart TV sector into a key part of the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem, delivering greater value to consumers. JD.com will open up its advanced technologies, including the JD East IoT Open Platform, JD Alpha Intelligent Service Platform, and JD Kepler Platform, to provide comprehensive support for alliance members. This initiative marks another step in JD.com’s strategy to build robust retail infrastructure and offer open access to its resources. The alliance is expected to breathe new life into the large-screen industry. According to the "2018 Chinese Family Large-Screen Ecological Industry Development Research Report" by Nielsen, over 56.3% of Chinese households now use smart TVs, making them the most popular entry point for home internet access. At the launch event, JD.com emphasized its commitment to empowering the alliance with AI technology, IoT capabilities, and e-commerce expertise. Through one-stop solutions, smart TVs will become central hubs for smart homes, offering seamless integration with other connected devices. Jeff Zhang, head of the JD Intelligent IoT Center Business Department, explained that JD will open the Joylink protocol, allowing users to control smart home devices via their TV remote or voice assistant, without needing to use a mobile app. For example, when a guest arrives, the smart doorbell can send a live video feed directly to the TV, enabling users to answer the door from the comfort of their sofa. In terms of AI services, the JD Alpha platform will enable members to offer advanced voice recognition, natural language processing, and voiceprint identification. This enhances user interaction, making it more intuitive and convenient compared to traditional remote controls. Additionally, the JD Kepler platform will allow for seamless shopping experiences. Users can browse products on their TV screens and make purchases directly, supported by JD’s big data algorithms that analyze user preferences for personalized recommendations. Yan Xiaobing, Vice President of JD.com and President of the Home Appliances Division, highlighted that the alliance represents a shift from standalone smart devices to an interconnected ecosystem. By combining JD's strengths with those of its partners, the alliance aims to deliver an unparalleled user experience and create new value for the industry. Dr. Li Kefeng, Vice President of JD Group and Head of Front-End Product R&D, noted that the alliance has redefined the business model of the smart screen ecosystem, leveraging technology and data to expand the functionality of big screens and establish a new operating model. Industry experts believe that the JD Smart Big Screen Industry Alliance will play a crucial role in shaping the future of smart home technology. By integrating third-party services and content, JD.com aims to enrich consumer experiences and bring a more connected and intelligent lifestyle to millions.
