TI introduces the AF focus voice coil driver DRV201

Texas Instruments (TI) today announced the industry's first autofocus voice coil driver that supports both pulse width modulation (PWM) and linear current regulation. The DRV201 gives designers the flexibility to choose PWM or linear adjustment for small cameras, smartphones and mobile devices. PWM current regulation can increase power efficiency by up to 75% compared to traditional designs using linear mode. The DRV201 is available in the TI PicoStarTM package, the industry's thinnest 0.15 mm package, to support thin camera modules. In addition, the DRV201 integrates advanced ringing compensation technology into silicon, which not only supports faster lens stabilization, but also supports a wider selection of lens and voice coil motor actuator suppliers.

The autofocus function is usually the most power-consuming and battery-intensive part of a mobile device such as a smartphone. By designing the PWM mode, the DRV201 can reduce the power consumption of the autofocus function by 75%, helping devices with small camera modules to extend battery life.

Key features and benefits of the DRV201 • Flexible selection of the operating mode of the I2C configuration;
• Advanced ringing compensation feature supports fast lens stabilization time to accelerate focus and support 10 mS settling time compared to 150 mS without ring compensation;
• Powerful on-chip protection (open and short circuit detection/protection, thermal protection and undervoltage lockout);
• Package height of 0.15 mm.

Availability The DRV201 is available now in a 0.8 mm x 1.48 mm PicoStar package.

A Battery Charger supplies current to the base plate. Once the AGV is in charging position and the collector has made contact with the base plate, the AGV computer turns on the current.

The base plate has chamfered entry/exit ramps to facilitate smooth drive-on/drive-off of the spring loaded collector.

A battery charging contact consists of a base plate, which is installed on the floor or laterally at a bracket adjacent of the AGV runway, and a current collector which is installed on the vehicle.

Battery charging stations may be installed anywhere within the system where the production process allows the AGV to stop (staging areas, turn arounds, loading stops etc.).
