Application introduction of power module in servo motor driver

Servo drive is an important part of modern motion control, and is widely used in industrial robots and CNC machining centers and other automation equipment. Especially the servo drives used to control AC permanent magnet synchronous motors have become a research hotspot at home and abroad.

1. Introduction to Servo Motor Driver

Servo motor driver is a kind of controller used to control the servo motor. Its function is similar to that of the frequency converter. It is a part of the servo system and is mainly used in high-precision positioning systems. Generally, the servo motor is controlled by three methods of position, speed and torque to achieve high-precision transmission system positioning. The physical picture of the product is shown in Figure 1 below.

Second, the principle of servo motor driver

At present, the mainstream servo drives all use digital signal processors (DSPs) as the control core, which can implement more complex control algorithms and realize digitization, networking and intelligence. Power devices generally use a driving circuit designed with an intelligent power module (IPM) as the core. The driving circuit is integrated in the IPM, and it has fault detection and protection circuits such as overvoltage, overcurrent, overheating, and undervoltage. Starting circuit to reduce the impact of the starting process on the driver. The power drive unit first rectifies the input three-phase power or mains power through a three-phase full-bridge rectifier circuit to obtain the corresponding direct current. After being rectified, the three-phase power or the city power is driven by the three-phase sinusoidal PWM voltage inverter to drive the three-phase permanent magnet synchronous AC servo motor. The entire process of the power drive unit can be simply referred to as the AC-DC-AC process. The overall application block diagram is shown in Figure 2 below.

3. Servo motor driver product opportunities

At present, the mainstream servo motor and driver support need to be controlled by a communication protocol. 232, 485, CAN, one of these three, is controlled by software specially configured for the computer. On the drive board, general customers do not need to isolate the power module, because there are many transformers, the user's existing solution is to use internal transformers with non-isolated power to achieve power isolation. The current opportunity is that customers will use power modules to build communication isolation circuits. In order to prevent the servo motor driver from being burned out due to incorrect wiring in the actual application, the power module needs to have short-circuit protection.
