In addition, Gandhinagar, Muzaffarpur, Karnal, Tirunelveli and Gangtok are also part of the smart city of India.

In 2015, Indian Prime Minister Modi proposed a “smart city” strategy, planning to build 100 smart cities across India; the Indian government will provide basic infrastructure, public transport, network connectivity and e-government systems for smart cities, hoping to combine Infrastructure renewal, urban re-planning, and various advanced technologies to create a model city for India's future, encourage public-private partnership (PPP), financial companies, and IT service companies to participate in the program.

A new batch of 30 smart cities will be selected from 45 participating cities, with a total investment of 573.93 billion rupees. Of this, 468.79 billion rupees were used for the development of core infrastructure and 105.14 billion rupees for technical development projects.

At the same time, the Indian government also launched the “livability index of the city”, using 79 indexes to monitor the development of the city and solve the gap.

The goal of the establishment of the Smart City Council by the Central Government of India is to establish 100 smart cities in the country, which are selected by the Challenge.

The remaining 10 city places will be selected from 20 cities including Itanagar, Meerut, Imphal and Haldia.

According to the status quo of social development in India, the Indian government decided to launch a “smart city” project to provide citizens with a better quality of life and a clean and sustainable environment, and to support the application of intelligent solutions. It is speculated that India's "smart city" market will have a business opportunity of 45 to 50 billion US dollars in the next five years. Among them, the electronic equipment business launched in the first phase will bring about 22 million to 25 million US dollars of business opportunities for suppliers.

India's "Smart City" program has received support from the United States, Britain, Japan and South Korea. As a large developing country and an emerging market country, China and India have broad cooperation space in technology, finance, business environment and new infrastructure construction. The space and possibility of cooperation in smart cities is huge.

Intelligent lighting is a very important part of the realization of smart city construction system, so the investment of this plan will help to stimulate the demand of intelligent lighting market, which is undoubtedly a good news for enterprises involved in LED intelligent lighting.

Earlier, the "Economic Times" reported on April 22 that global technology giants Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei and Cisco were gambling on India's "Smart Cities" project, which is expected to reach $50 billion in the next five years.
