International Rectifier ( IR ), the global leader in power semiconductors and management solutions, today announced two automotive DirectFETTM power MOSFETs with low gate charge for switching applications. These switching applications include switching power supplies (SMPS). ), Class D audio systems, high intensity gas discharge lamp (HID) lighting, and other automotive power conversion applications.
The AU IR F7648M2 and AU IR F7669L2 are IR's first automotive-grade DirectFETTM devices tailored for DC-DC applications, offering low gate charge and on-resistance (RDS(on)) for a variety of switching applications. Switching and conduction losses are minimized. In addition, the low parasitic inductance provided by the DirectFETTM power package provides excellent high frequency switching performance and reduces waveform ringing, which helps limit electromagnetic interference and reduce filter size.

The AUIRF7648M2 has a PCB package size that is 54% smaller than the DPak package, and the AUIRF7669L2 has a 60% smaller PCB package size than the D2Pak. Because their package current ratings are 179A and 375A, the DirectFETTM package has no limits on silicon current capability. In addition, the package's maximum current rating far exceeds the limits of the traditional DPak and D2Pak packages.
The new device complies with the AEC-Q101 standard and was developed under the automotive quality concept of IR requiring zero defects. The environmentally friendly materials used are both lead free and RoHS compliant.
