Qualcomm announced the detailed specifications of the new generation of Opteron 835 processors on the eve of CES2017. High-performance heterogeneous computing platform: Kryo 280+Adreno 540+DSP
Based on ARM Cortex technology, Qualcomm introduced the second generation of "semi-customized" Kryo architecture. The Kryo 280 CPU features an eight-core design that includes a quad-core 2.45GHz performance cluster and a quad-core 1.9GHz efficiency cluster. The latter introduced a 1MB L2 cache, reducing the interaction between CPU and system memory to cope with 80% of usage scenarios.
The new generation Adreno 540 GPU achieves a 25% performance increase and a 40% power reduction, supporting OpenGL ES 3.2, full OpenCL 2.0, Vulkan and DX12. The Snapdragon Neuroprocessing Engine software framework has been upgraded. The Hexagon 682 DSP supports HVX features, supporting TensorFlow for machine learning and Halide for image processing.
The combination of CPU, GPU, DSP and software framework in the Snapdragon 835 provides a high performance heterogeneous computing platform. When we use CPU calculation as the benchmark, if the load is transferred to the GPU, the performance can be improved by 4 times and the energy efficiency can be increased by 8 times. If the load is optimized to the DSP, and then the GPU-based deep neural network can be used, the performance can be improved by 8 times. 24 times energy efficiency improvement.
Lifetime Enhancement: 10 nm FinFET + Quick Charge 4
The Snapdragon 835 is the first mobile platform for the commercial 10nm FinFET process node, which is manufactured by Samsung Semiconductor and integrates more than 3 billion transistors. Compared with Xiaolong 801 and Xiaolong 820, the power consumption is reduced by 50% and 25% respectively. The chip area is 35% smaller than that of Xiaolong 820, which can effectively save internal space and increase battery capacity.
Quick Charge 4 is Qualcomm's fastest fast charging solution. Compared with QC 3.0, the charging speed is increased by 20% and the efficiency is increased by 30%. Quick Charge 4 introduces a more sophisticated voltage negotiation mechanism and security protection mechanism. It integrates support for USB-PD and USB type-c. Terminal and charger negotiation support protection against overvoltage, overcurrent and over-temperature.
Gigabit connection: X16 LTE+11ad Wi-Fi
The Snapdragon 835 processor integrates an X16 Gigabit LTE modem with three-carrier aggregation, high-order modulation and 4x4 MIMO to support 1Gbps Category 16 LTE download speeds and 150Mbps Category 13 LTE upload speeds. The first certified Bluetooth 5 commercial technology delivers 2Gbps speed.
The Snapdragon 835 also integrates multi-gigabit 802.11ad and 2x2 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi, making it the first commercial processor to offer gigabit connectivity at home and on the go. The 802.11ac baseband is integrated into the SoC. The Wi-Fi chip process is reduced from 40 nanometers to 10 nanometers, with a 50% reduction in size and a 60% reduction in power consumption.
Dual camera solution: Spectra 180 ISP
The Spectra 180 ISP for the next generation of camera functions, dual 14-bit ISP can support up to 32 million pixel single camera or dual 16 megapixel camera. The Spectra 180 ISP introduces a unified dual camera architecture that includes color + black and white, wide angle + telephoto, which not only enables smooth optical zoom, EIS 3.0 electronic image stabilization, but also the application of Clear Sight technology.
The Spectra 180 ISP supports hybrid autofocus, including laser, contrast, structured light, and bi-phase focusing (2PD), which intelligently confirms the focus mechanism based on lighting conditions and improves the focus speed of low light. The ISP adds hardware-accelerated enhanced HDR (zzHDR), a true dynamic range that supports high dynamic range (HDR) of perceptually quantized video coding.
Safer biometrics: Haven security platform
For the first time, the Qualcomm Haven Security Platform supports all biometric suites that support fingerprint recognition, eye-based and face-based biometrics. It also includes hardware-based user authentication, terminal authentication, and terminal security for usage scenarios such as mobile payments, enterprise access, and user personal data.

In addition, the Snapdragon 835 also supports Qualcomm aptX and aptX HD Bluetooth audio, while reducing the power consumption of wireless connections by half.
