Soxi Technology has become a key player in the semiconductor industry, particularly in the fields of image processing and custom SoC design. Known for its advanced technologies such as Milbeaut image processors used in SLR cameras, digital cameras, and smartphones, it has gained recognition among engineers working on mobile hardware design. Additionally, the company's Triton in-vehicle SoC and OmniView 360° panoramic driving assistance system have made waves in automotive ADAS systems. However, since March last year, the company has undergone significant changes, with the new Fujitsu Semiconductor SoC division and the newly formed Socionext (a joint venture between Fujitsu and Panasonic) now taking over the global distribution of Soxi Technology products.

In recent events like the ARM Technology Forum and the China IC Industry Annual Conference, Soxi Technology has been actively promoting its brand to Chinese engineers. The company showcased its wide range of large-scale products and technical services, emphasizing three core areas: video systems, custom SoC design, and image processing. This strategic focus highlights the strong technological foundation of Soxi Technology and its commitment to innovation.

Strong IP Portfolio and Custom Design Leadership

At the China IC Industry Annual Conference, Soxi Technology's custom design services attracted significant attention from Chinese IC designers and system vendors. According to Vincent, Executive Vice President of Technology, "We excel in high-end communication networks, storage/servers, 3D graphics processing, and high-speed interface chip design. We have exclusive experience and patents, and we’ve collaborated with leading Chinese communication equipment manufacturers and research institutions on cutting-edge SoC R&D."

The company’s design services are built upon a robust IP portfolio in high-performance design, which is crucial for many Chinese design companies and system manufacturers. Many engineers at Fujitsu Electronics Group, a joint venture partner of Soxi, are familiar with the company's legacy in providing top-tier custom design services. For example, Fujitsu Semiconductor (now Fujitsu Electronics Co., Ltd.) was one of the first to bring mature 28nm process and design services to China, helping major system manufacturers achieve high-end chip customization for network communications.

Figure 2: At the ARM Technology Forum, Vincent presented Soxi's custom design services for the consumer market based on the full ARM core.

"To achieve first-class quality and reliability through 'artisan craftsmanship,' we provide supercomputer CPUs, high-speed server CPUs, analog device cores, and peripheral custom LSI products. This allows customers to gain an edge in IT infrastructure," Vincent emphasized. He highlighted that complex systems, especially high-end application-specific SoCs, require extremely high-performance IPs and design expertise—something that Soxi excels in. By enhancing collaboration between internal teams and external suppliers, Soxi aims to deliver optimized, high-quality SoC designs for global customers in areas like high-speed I/O, analog macros, and memory controllers.

"In flip-chip packaging and high-pin multi-chip modules, we've accumulated significant technical capabilities. In the field of advanced custom SoC design, HiTech can deliver faster and lower-power products," Vincent noted. Successfully arranging hundreds of millions of logic gates and memories on a small silicon die is a major challenge, and this is where Soxi's design verification and technology assets shine. For many engineering teams, this is a major attraction for customers.

"To better support our custom design services, we've established three business divisions: the Network SoC Business Unit focuses on network communication solutions, such as optical transmission; the High-Performance SoC Business Unit targets high-end servers and storage; and the CustomSoC Business Unit caters to consumer and industrial applications, including ARM-based platforms and mobile ultrasound solutions," Vincent explained at the ARM Technology Forum, introducing his team's custom IC design services to nearly a thousand Chinese engineers.

Gold Signboard "Milbeaut" – Deep Dive into Image Processing Technology

As a popular brand in the global smartphone camera and SLR markets, Milbeaut is one of Soxi Technology's most recognized brands. The company established the "Milbeaut Division" to offer comprehensive solutions and technical support, ranging from professional SLR cameras to mass-market digital cameras and smartphone cameras. "We've developed original image processing algorithms since the birth of digital cameras, now in the 8th generation, featuring outstanding image quality and market-leading video codec functions and interfaces. We also provide platform and firmware development, sales, and image quality consulting services for a one-stop solution," Vincent said.

Industry sources suggest that the core of image processing lies in cultivating experienced professionals who can discern subtle differences in images. These experts work closely with manufacturers to fine-tune color temperature, brightness, and RGB settings to meet diverse customer needs. "Our team includes many specialists who can handle various image quality requirements and deliver the best possible results under any conditions," Vincent explained, highlighting the company's strong after-sales support for some mobile IDH manufacturers.

Soxi's Milbeaut technology extends beyond traditional camera applications, with applications in surveillance cameras and automotive vision ADAS systems. "In computer vision areas requiring accurate image recognition and noise reduction, Soxi has advanced processing capabilities. We provide mature algorithms and open tools to support these applications," Vincent said. In addition to the Milbeaut division, Soxi has set up the "Connected Imaging Division" to offer solutions for transcoders, decoders, and HEVC formats.

Chinese engineers are familiar with Soxi's automotive panoramic imaging assistant system, and its related products have been well-received in the industry. The company provides virtual instrument solutions that integrate multi-screen displays using high-performance image SoCs and chipsets, along with a coordinated design tool called "CGIStudio." "These are just part of Soxi's vision system technology coverage. With the rise of video data, Soxi's connected video technology links the entire video pipeline from capture to display, maximizing the value of video content and offering customers new innovations and experiences," Vincent explained.

Soxi has developed advanced compression and decompression technologies for video encoding, decoding, and transcoding. These technologies support high-level H.265 formats and provide integrated management and display solutions for central control displays, HUDs, and in-car entertainment systems. Through its Video Systems Division and IoT & Graphics Solutions Division, Soxi continues to leverage its technological and industrial advantages. Recently, the company launched the world's first real-time 4K60P HEVC/H.265 encoder product, setting a new standard in the industry.

Summary

Soxi Technology views video and image-related technologies as a strategic pillar of its development. It leverages the resources of its seven business divisions to create a unique competitive advantage in the global semiconductor market. In addition to video and image technologies, Soxi is also investing in IoT applications, including the world's smallest 24GHz CMOS wireless sensor and WiGig 60GHz ultra-high-speed wireless communication modules. These key IoT technologies are gaining significant attention in the industry, reinforcing Soxi's position as a leader in innovation and technology-driven solutions.
