The world's largest mobile phone chip maker Qualcomm plans to abandon the development of data center server chips

[The world's largest mobile phone chip maker Qualcomm plans to abandon the development of data center server chips] Beijing time morning news on May 8, according to Bloomberg News quoted informed sources, the world's largest mobile phone chip maker Qualcomm plans to give up developing data center server chips.

Qualcomm was involved in server chips, originally intended to break the dominance of Intel in this lucrative market. Informed sources said that Qualcomm is still considering two options - close the business, or find new buyers for it. The business originally wanted to use the ARM architecture to develop processors for servers.

ARM is Intel's only competitor in the field of semiconductor design. Its architecture is mainly used for low-power products such as smart phones.

In the process of helping the ARM architecture advance into the top-end computing market, Qualcomm is the biggest supporter. The price of such chips is as high as several thousand dollars. For many years, many chip makers have been hoping to provide processors for large data center operators such as Google and Amazon to break Intel’s dominance—about 99% of Intel’s market share in this area.

A high-pass spokesman declined to comment on the news. Qualcomm's CEO Steve Mollenkopf said in a financial teleconference last month that Qualcomm’s focus was on compressing non-core product spending.

The server can handle the data in the enterprise network and also play a key role in the Internet. However, in terms of shipment volume, the scale is far smaller than that of the smartphone and PC market. However, due to the high fees charged for high performance, the market is quite attractive.

Qualcomm began selling Centriq2400 server chips last year. The company said at the time that the Samsung foundry chip outperformed the Intel Platinum Xeon 8180 processor in terms of power consumption and cost. When the chip was released in November last year, Microsoft also took the stage to express interest in this chip. But after this, Qualcomm has been silent on progress.

Although the cancellation of the business can save design costs for Qualcomm, it has also led to its failure to shed its reliance on the slowing smartphone market. In response to Broadcom’s hostile takeover, Qualcomm’s management once promised investors in January that they will reduce annual expenses by US$1 billion to increase profitability.

The U.S. government previously rejected Broadcom’s plan for the acquisition of Qualcomm.

Magnetic Buzzer Self-drive Type

The magnetic buzzers (Self-drive Type) offer optimal sound and performance for all types of audible alert and identification. Our magnetic Buzzer solutions are offered with various mounting options. We also provide you with a washable version for your preferred soldering method. Our magnetic buzzers, also known as indicators, are designed with an internal drive circuit for easy application integration. During operation, current is driven through a voice coil to produce a magnetic field. When a voltage is applied, the coil generates a magnetic field and then allows the diaphragm to vibrate and produce sound. This buzzer type has a low operating voltage ranging from 1.5 – 12V+. Our magnetic buzzers are desirable for applications requiring a lower sound pressure level (SPL) and frequency.
