DIALOG Launches New Single-Level LED Driver

Recently, Dialog Semiconductor Co., Ltd. has introduced its latest single-level LED driver to solve dimming performance, heat generation and cost issues in high-power, dimmable solid-state lighting (SSL) applications. The new iW3600 with 45W output power can seamlessly adjust the light level from 100% to 1% without causing dead travel problems, while at the same time lighting the LED with a lower pop-on current The brightness of the bulb is extremely low (< 5% of light output).

In addition, it employs Dialog's patented configurable over-temperature protection (OTP) derating technology to address lamp life due to overheating; its single-stage digital design also helps lighting OEMs reduce materials Billing (BOM) costs.

The iW3600 is designed for a variety of retrofit bulbs, including external dimmable ballast drivers and the A19, PAR and T8 bulbs used in existing phase-cut dimmers. It uses Dialog's patented intelligent dimming control technology to be compatible with a wide range of dimmers including TRIAC, digital and general purpose. The technology can use digital analysis results to query dimmers and apply algorithms that automatically match the type of dimmer.

Dialog's patented overheat protection and derating technology is designed to solve the problem of shortened LED lamp life due to overheating of retrofit bulbs. Most power IC designs are equipped with a thermal shutdown feature to turn off the IC in high temperature environments. Although this function can protect the IC, it cannot protect the LED driver circuit because in most cases, when the control IC is turned off, the operating temperature is still much higher than the safe operating temperature of the electrolytic capacitor.

The iW3600's built-in adjustable over-temperature protection derating technology monitors the temperature inside the sealed SSL bulb. At higher temperatures, the iW3600 automatically reduces the drive current into the LED in tiny steps; when the temperature drops, it seamlessly restores brightness. This approach reduces the operating temperature in a low-airflow bulb environment, avoids exceeding the electrolytic capacitor's rated temperature, and helps achieve predictable lamp life.

The iW3600 meets or exceeds regulatory requirements related to global power quality and efficiency, with lower total harmonic distortion (THD) < 20% and higher power factor (PF)> 0.92.
