Industry-leading high-voltage analog process for small packages

Toshiba has introduced the "TB67S14x" constant current control motor driver series for unipolar stepper motors. Using the industry-leading 80V analog process, the three motor drivers in this series are available in a single-piece structure 2 and a small package. Samples of the experience will be available starting in December this year.

High-speed and high-power motor drives are required for a wide range of applications using single-pole stepper motors such as amusement gaming machines, home appliances, and industrial equipment. Driver ICs that run this type of motor require an absolute maximum rating of 60V or higher to handle reverse voltage overshoot, and typically use a hybrid-structured combination motor controller and high-voltage discrete FET (output circuit) or bipolar transistor. This results in a larger package size.

The "TB67S14x" series is available in a small package thanks to the newly developed high-voltage analog process. Compared to the equivalent product 3 in the HZIP25 package, the new QFN48 package reduces the mounting area to approximately 27% of the former, and the package size is reduced to less than 2% of the former, and will help to reduce the size of the device. Due to the integration of Toshiba's raw current sense circuit (ACDS4), this series does not require highly accurate external current sense resistors (required for conventional constant current control motor driver ICs), which also helps to reduce the amount of material. .

Key features of the new product line

1. Monolithic structure enables small package

The industry-leading high voltage process (BiCD 130nm, 80V) is available in a single-chip construction and small package. The monolithic structure also reduces power consumption compared to hybrid structures and bipolar transistors.

2. Integrate Toshiba's original constant current detection circuit

By integrating the original constant current detection circuit, there is no need for a highly accurate external constant current detection resistor, which reduces the amount of material.

3. Multiple packages

The small QFN and HTSSOP packages reduce the mounting area, while the HSOP package supports flow mounting on paper phenolic boards and the HZIP package supports high current continuous motor drive.

4. Built-in anomaly detection

The product integrates an overtemperature protection circuit, an overcurrent protection circuit, and an undervoltage lockout circuit to help achieve highly reliable application operation.

application

Entertainment game machines; household appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners; industrial equipment including bank terminals; and automated office equipment.
