Many users have such confusion: a variety of oscilloscopes and probes in the laboratory, can the probes and oscilloscopes of different manufacturers be mixed? Will it affect the measurement? Some probes have a special shape. Is this specially designed probe considered for technical or commercial mode? Can it be compatible with other models of oscilloscopes? First, BNC connector

The BNC connector is a connector for coaxial cable, which is a bayonet-fit connector. Active probe: The active probe consists of a RC component and an active component, so additional power is required. The active probe test is stable and the price is high. As shown in Figure 4.

The oscilloscope probes are basically BNC interfaces to a certain extent. Some manufacturers have made functional innovations and modifications on the basis of BNC interfaces, making them more suitable for their testing needs. That is, while using the BNC connector, an additional scale factor detection pin for analog coding is shown in Figure 3, which allows the probe ratio to be automatically recognized. The compatible oscilloscope can automatically detect and change the vertical attenuation range displayed by the oscilloscope. Figure 4 shows.

The passive probe of Figure 3 can be used for signal input from most oscilloscopes. The probe of Figure 4 is only suitable for its oscilloscope input because it is uniquely designed in structure and requires power.

Third, how to determine what type of probe is available to the oscilloscope

Which types of probes are compatible with these three oscilloscope interfaces? How do you determine the type of probe supported by the oscilloscope input interface? The specific judgment method is divided into the following four points:

1. Power supply mode of the probe: The standard passive BNC probe does not need to be powered, so it can be used for most oscilloscope input interfaces; if the power supply of the active BNC probe is designed in the internal structure of the probe and matched with the input end of the oscilloscope, this The types are only available for oscilloscope inputs that are compatible with them. If the active BNC probe is powered by an external power supply, it can be used for most oscilloscope input interfaces, as shown in Figure 7 below.

Fourth, summary

All brands of oscilloscopes are universal in terms of standard BNC interfaces. However, it has a special appearance, and the probe interface of the special structure is generally a dedicated interface, which can only be applied to a certain brand or even a series of oscilloscopes of the brand. At the same time, such probes are generally expensive, and if the oscilloscope brand or model is replaced, all probes will be void.
