British researchers say white LED energy efficiency is expected to reach 50%-60%

The University of Dundee is organizing a European research project to improve the energy efficiency of white LEDs in order to compete with existing lighting products. The project received funding support from the EU FP7 program of up to 7.2 million euros. Currently, LED lighting fixtures have an energy efficiency of around 25%, and researchers at the University of Dundee hope to increase existing energy efficiency to 50%-60%.

According to Prof. Edik Rafailov, the person in charge of the project, “The efficiency of ordinary light bulbs is very low. Even the lamps that currently use the best white LEDs have an overall energy efficiency of only 25%. We are working on a more efficient white LED. Will achieve 50-60% efficiency. If this result can be achieved and widely adopted, the energy saving effect of this effect will be huge. At the same time, this result will also produce more brightness and hue. For controllable lighting products."
